The Cal Lodge is located at 7,000 ft. on top of Donner Summit. Always be prepared for winter driving conditions. Drive slow, carry chains, and remember when you reach our Lodge, you'll feel at home and won't have to drive anymore because you can ski or snowshoe out our back door or use the free shuttle to Sugar Bowl Ski resort. Driving Directions to the Lodge from San Francisco
Take the Bay Bridge to Interstate 80, head east toward Sacramento/Reno. Just before you reach Donner Summit look for the "Sugar Bowl Next Exit" sign then exit at the Norden/Soda Springs off ramp. Turn right on Donner Pass rd. eastbound, and continue 2.5 miles.
Take Interstate 80 west through Truckee, heading west towards Donner summit.
Take the Norden/ Soda Springs/ Sugar Bowl Exit. Turn left on Highway 40 Eastbound & continue 2.5 miles. Pass the Clair Tappaan Lodge on your left, your next exit will be the Cal Lodge. We have a green roof and sit up on the hill to the left. You know you have gone to far if you reach the Gondola parking lot for Sugar Bowl. If so, turn around & we are the first big driveway on the right. Park in the lot on the left. In the winter months you must park at the bottom of the hill in the large parking lot & walk up (about 75 feet) to our lodge. Please DO NOT leave any valuables in your vehicle and bring everything into the lodge.
From Reno:
Take Interstate 80 west through Truckee, heading west towards Donner summit.

Amtrak / Greyhound:
There is an Amtrak/Greyhound stop in nearby Truckee, NV. During the day, there are free shuttles from Truckee to Sugar Bowl and other area ski resorts. If you get on the Sugar Bowl shuttle, just tell them youre getting off at the Cal Lodge (and it wouldnt hurt to note the directions above.) Then in the morning you can go 75 feet down the hill from the lodge and catch one of the regularly scheduled shuttles to Sugar Bowl!
